Tina Knowles
Tina Knowles is a businesswoman, fashion designer, philanthropist, author and mother to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. While writing her memoir, Matriarch, released in 2024, Knowles was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer. “I forgot that I didn’t go to get my test two years before I thought I had because COVID came, and they called me and canceled me, and they said, we’ll call you when we start testing again. And I just thought I had done it,” Knowles told People magazine. Later that year, she had the cancer surgically removed, as well as a breast reduction. She has been cancer-free since.
In her memoir, Knowles shares her diagnosis, discussing the support she received from her family as well as the adversities she faced throughout treatment. Today, she serves as an advocate for breast cancer awareness, urging women, especially Black women, who face health disparities compared with white women, to prioritize their health by getting routine screening.
